Student-Youth Rally Condemns Police Attack on Eminent Personalities SFI West Bengal State Committee and DYFI State Committee jointly organized a student and youth mass meeting in front of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate demanding the interrogation of all the 12 people named by Kunal Ghosh, who were involved in the Saradha scam, confiscation of the properties of the Saradha group of industries and redistribution of that wealth to all the people who are affected by the scam, and condemning the attack on role of the Bidhannagar City Police which had attacked and later arrested octogenarian educationist Prof. Sunanda Sanyal and political activists Com. Dr. Sujan Chakraborty, Com. Ashim Chatterjee, Dr. Sukhbilas Barma (retired IAS) and others on 28th December (as they were supposed to be a part of a 10-member team to give a depuatation on behalf of Chit Fund Sufferers’ Unity Forum protested). Thousands of students and youths rallied in from Beleghata Connector of EM Bypass to attend the public meeting in front of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, which was enveloped by huge police contingent. Our leaders Com. Ritabrata Banerjee (All-India General Secretary), Com. Debajyoti Das (Secretary, West Bengal State Committee) entered the Commissionerate as a part of the 6-member team to give a memorandum to the Investigating Officer of Bidhannagar City Police demanding interrogation of all the 12 persons named by Kunal Ghosh, including the Chief Minister. Com. Ritabrata Banerjee, Advocate Amitava Majumdar (who is associated with the Public Interest Litigation in the Saradha scam filed by Advocate Prashant Bhushan), Dr. Sukhbilas Barma (Congress MLA and retired IAS officer), Com. Madhuja Senroy (President, West Bengal State Committee), veteran educationist Prof. Sunanda Sanyal, Com. Dr. Sujan Chakrabarty (State Secretariat member of CPI(M), and former SFI leader), Com. Samir Putatunda (Secretary-General, PDS) and Com. Ashim Chatterjee (leader of CRLI, and former student leader) were amongst the speakers of the mass meeting. Former SFI leader and currently President of the DYFI State Committee Com. Sayandeep Mitra presided over the meeting. All the speakers demanded that all the Trinamool leaders who were benefitted by Saradha, and were involved in the scam must be immediately put behind the bars, and Govt. of West Bengal must confiscate the properties of the Saradha group and relieve the numerous small investors who were affected in the scam by redistributing the wealth. Com. Debajyoti Das (Secretary, SFI, West Bengal State Committee) briefed the outcomes and proceedings of the delegation that met the police commissioner in order to submit the deputation. It must also be noted that the left MLAs had repeatedly warned the West Bengal Govt. in the Legislative Assembly about the growing dangers of various chit fund, though the government had turned deaf ears. Instead, CPI (M) MLAs Com. Gouranga Chatterjee and Com. Deblina Hembram (former minister) were attacked and beaten up by Trinamool MLAs inside the assembly on 12th December for asking questions on chit funds. 30th November, 2013 |
