condemn the withdrawal of the text on Dr. BR Ambedkar by Gujarat government

Press Release

18th August, 2015

The Sangh Parivar's agenda of implementing it's Hindutva agenda in education has been once again exposed. Recently the Gujarat government has withdrawn  a book  on Dr. BR Ambedkar stating it is against the Hindus. The book was introduced as reference reading material to students of class VI-VIII in government schools across the state. Like many other cases this too cannot be seen as an isolated incident. The ideas of equality, justice and annihilation of caste for which Ambedkar fought are the opposites of the ideology of Sangh Parivar. Braving the attacks of brahminical forces in various forms Ambedkar fought the inequality in Hinduism. Time and again he questioned the uselessness of the political independence if there is no social equality. The Ambedkar's idea of India cannot be matched at any level with the Hindutva nationalism put forwarded by the RSS. It is none other than the same saffron brigade which is more scared of Ambedkar being studied. On the one hand the book on Ambedkar who stood for secularism and equality is being withdrawn and in the other the texts spreads communal hatred are adding to the curriculum by the BJP led governments. SFI Central Executive Committee condemns the incident of withdrawing the text on Dr. BR Ambedkar by the Gujarat government. We demand to repeal the withdrawal order immediately and the text be taught.
